What exactly is “employee engagement” and why is it
important? Is it just another “flavor of the month” that  will dissipate, only to be replaced by another upcoming fad?The presentation will address these questions with  evidence-based research as well as results from organizations.

 Tom Coffey, SPHR, CBM, CPLP

Tom Coffey is the principal of Effective Performance Solutions, LLC, a Virginia-based firm providing HRD services to both Fortune 500 companies and small local organizations. He is Past President of the Valleys of Virginia chapter of ASTD, and is on the Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Roanoke Valley SHRM, and was on the 2010 Virginia State SHRM Conference Committee.

Tom holds the SPHR, CBM, and CPLP designations, and is listed in "Who's Who of Professionals". He was also selected to the ASTD National Leadership Committee, and was featured in the January 2010 issue of "Training and Development" magazine. He has a B.S. degree in HR management, and a M.S. degree in Leadership and Human Resources. He has instructed college course work in Human Resources Management and lectured at Hollins University on the topics "Title VII and Discrimination" and "Recruitment and Selection". He also presented “Performance Management: What is Your Organization’s Weakest Link?” and “Building Trust in These Tough Economic Times” for the Roanoke Valley SHRM chapter.

Tom is a licensed FranklinCovey facilitator for "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", "Closing the Execution Gap", and "The 4 Imperatives of Leadership". He was the keynote presenter at the IAPES Virginia State Conference, speaking on "Close Encounters with Quality Customer Service" and was the featured presenter for a Covey "Speed of Trust” workshop for 350 participants in the nonprofit sector in Atlanta in 2009.

Tom has a book in progress, titled Living by Design, or Default? Practical Guidelines for Creating a Fulfilling and Purposeful Life.

Prior to his speaking and consulting practice, Tom has held Corporate HRD and Training management positions. He specializes in Leadership Development and has a copyrighted 40 hour workshop series entitled "Equipping the Leader". His HRD and training experience is utilized to develop results-focused performance interventions for his clients.
